STAFFING FUNCTIONS
- Department Chairman
- Oversees the overall function of the Department Emergency Room (Clean and COVID), Transition Intensive Care Unit, Transition Ward, Medical Intensive Care Unit and Out Patient Department and render appropriate corrections to flaws noted in the system.
- Provides, modifies or ratifies any changes in the policy that may arise incidentally, not initially covered by this policy.
- Responsible in monitoring policy compliance and acts in correcting any identified inefficiencies that arises from given responsibilities of each respective level of training.
- Elevates concerns to administration related to repeated infraction by the hospital staff and including changes needed necessary to obtain the objectives of this policy

- Has the directive in assigning or replacing consultants of department subcommittees.
- Creates department subcommittees and has the power to remove or replace subcommittee in accordance to the prevailing needs department.
- Attends to monthly department heads meeting and is the primary representative of the I.M department in interhospital, interagency and interdepartmental concerns.
- The final signatory and determination of residents for promotion and recommendation of consultants' renewal.
- Formulates the annual department activities which includes scheduling of general assembly, exams, and conferences.
- Training Officer
- Provides mechanisms that will assure all medical residents in training will be provided with adequate guidelines and regulation relative to the prevailing PCP Residents Training Program.
- Identifies problems, and then formulate solutions for the improvement in both the delivery of quality health care and training outcomes of medical residents.
- Institutes corrective measures for medical residents in training for any inefficiency in the emergency room, wards, ICU (covid and non-covid) and OPD.
- Ensures that the medical residents in training conduct their function according to codes of ethical behaviour and other relevant professional and statutory standard.
- Consultants
- Ensures that the medical residents in training render services to patient adequately in accordance to commonly accepted practices, clinical practice guidelines and international standards.
- Accepts referral for any conflicts and confusion that may arise during decking and triaging of the patient at the ER level and management of admitted patients.
- Ensures that the medical residents in training render services to patient adequately in accordance to commonly accepted practices, clinical practice guidelines and international standards.
- Chief Resident
- Oversees the IM department in the absence of both Consultant and the department chairman.
- Facilitates and formulates interdepartmental and interagency communication with the approval of the training officer and department head and disseminates the information to the department.
- Level III Residents
- First hand supervisory function to the Level I and II and monitor if the both intra and interdepartmental policies and guidelines is appropriately followed and adequate management has been provided.
- Manages patients admitted under ICU service in charity cases and assist primary physician for pay patients.
- Level II Residents
- Takes up the post in the emergency room and subspecialty clinics; and functions in accordance to policies, guidelines and rules set by the PCPTP, the department and the hospital.
- Answers referral from other department.
- Attends patients at Subspecialty referrals at Out Patient Department under the supervision of the subspec consultant in charge.
- Level I Residents
- Manages patients admitted in the charity ward under the direct supervision of level II and Ill, and guidance of CIC.
- Attends patients at Out Patient Department and conducts Lay for a tackling different health concerns in Internal Medicine
- Performs ward works (i.e. IV insertion, IFC insertion, ET intubation etc) expected of a competent level I
- Acts as pay ward resident on duty and functions in assessing and receiving private patients then relaying to attending physicians.
