DEPARTMENT OF
DENTAL MEDICINE
The Quezon City General Hospital, a project conceived in 1963, has a rich history of providing quality healthcare services to the community. In 1967, the hospital opened its out-patient service, which was initially staffed by personnel from the Q.C. Health Department. This marked the beginning of a commitment to accessible healthcare for all residents.
In 1975, the hospital expanded its services with the establishment of the Community Ambulatory Health Care Services, which included the Out-Patient Department (OPD) and Domiciliary services. The OPD service, with its unique characteristics, was inaugurated during the centennial birthday of the late Manuel L. Quezon, leading to the creation of the Dental Department as part of the Medical Specialty Clinics. Today, the Dental Department operates under the Medical Ancillary, providing essential dental care to patients.
The Dental Section has seen a dedicated team of professionals over the years, including Dr. Bayani S. Tinoco and Dr. Delfin Quijano as the first chief dentists. Subsequent dentists who have contributed to the department's success include Dr. Domingo Sunga, Dr. Josevero Briones, Dr. Sixta Santos, Dr. Beatriz Tan, Dr. Agnes Agadel Francia, Dr. Norman Cabanding, Dr. Valentina Barlaan, Dr. Joan Vidal, Dr. Angelita Bartiana and Dr. Princess Mira Gulmatico. The department has also been supported by dental aides such as Ms. Susan Portillo, Mrs. Mely Alvarez, Ms. Emma Chan, Ms. Anna De los Santos, Ms. Susie Fernandez, and Ms. Milagros Dimaisip.
Currently, the Department of Dental Medicine is led by Dr. Evelyn M. Cortez-Tibung with Dr. Sherry A. Samson serving as an assistant. The dedicated dental staff includes Dr. Reynato B. Perilla Jr., Dr. Donna Mae P. Avelino, Dr. Paul D. Bonifacio, Ms. Perlita A. Gatchalian, Mr. Erron M. Micu and Rica Mae D. Jinayon.

Endomotor with Apex Locator
An endomotor with an integrated apex locator is a dental device that combines an endodontic motor for shaping root canals with a built-in apex locator for measuring working length during the procedure. This integrated design allows for more efficient and accurate root canal treatments by reducing the need for a separate apex locator device, streamlining the process, and providing real-time feedback. Key features include automatic functions like stop-reverse, programmable settings, cordless and ergonomic designs, and compatibility with various file systems.

Piezotome Cube
The Piezotome Cube is a dental device that uses ultrasonic vibrations to perform tooth extractions and bone surgery procedures. The device uses ultrasonic vibrations to extract teeth and perform bone surgery while minimizing damage to surrounding tissue. The device's thin tip preserves bone and can eliminate the need for a surgical flap. The device can lead to faster, more accurate, and less traumatic procedures. Patients may experience less swelling, bleeding, pain, and complications, and may recover faster.

Digital Periapical X-ray
A digital periapical X-ray is a dental image that provides a detailed view of one or two teeth, from the crown to the root tip and the surrounding bone. This technology utilizes a digital sensor instead of film, offering faster results, sharper images, and significantly lower radiation exposure compared to older methods. Digital periapical X-rays are used to diagnose issues such as tooth decay, infections, abscesses, and bone loss, as well as to monitor dental treatments

Brushless Dental Electric Motor
Brushless dental electric motors have become an integral part of modern dental practices, offering numerous benefits over traditional brushed motors. Their efficiency, reliability, and precision make them invaluable tools for a wide range of dental procedures. Electric dental handpiece motors are an alternative to air turbine powered handpiece motors. The main benefit to an electric motor is a consistently high torque throughout rpm speeds.
