Training Programs
The residency training program of the department caters in training the residents in the different subspecialties, namely, Otology and Audiology, Rhinopharyngology and Allergology, Laryngology/ Bronchoesophagology, Head and Neck Oncology/Surgery, and Maxillofacial Trauma Surgery, Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
Since 2003, the Philippine Board of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery (PBO-HNS) granted a 4-year accreditation of the residency training program. Since then, the department has been granted full accreditation every 4 years. To cope with the increasing number of patients, the department requested to increase the number of residents from 1 to 2 residents per year for a total of 8 residents for 16 ward beds (2 beds or patients per resident).

Activities/Projects
In celebration of Pinoy ENT Allergy Week, the department, led by our training officer Dr. Joseph Bernard Lo, spearheaded a lay forum on Allergic Rhinitis last January 23, 2025, at the Outpatient Department. The event, imbued with both educational and compassionate purpose, sought to empower patients and the general public with knowledge, bridging the gap between medical expertise and community awareness.
The department hosted a PBOHNS required postgraduate course entitled “Laryngologybronchoesophagology Course and Workshop 2025” in colaboration with Philippine Academy of Laryngobronchoesophagology and Phoniatrics and in cooperation with Philippine Society of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery with 2-day lecture last April 24-26, 2025
On November 29, 2025, the department conducted a blepharoplasty and rhinoplasty mission at the 4th floor ENT ambulatory unit entitled “Gandang QCGH 2025”. This mission will benefit the residents not only to complete their cases, but also to hone their skills in facial plastic surgeries, along with giving aesthetic satisfaction to our participants.
Achievements/Awards/Commendations/Citations
On August 10, 2025, the Department proudly represented the institution at the 4th National Laryngology Quiz Bee held at the Unilab PSR Lounge, Shaw Boulevard, Pasig City. Competing against 35 accredited ORL-HNS training institutions nationwide, the Department showcased excellence and dedication, ultimately securing 3rd place in this prestigious competition. The team was composed of Dr. Norjem Villanueva, Dr. La Reyna Salenga, Dr. Mercede Arroyo, and Dr. Isabelle Bagnes.
On August 18, 2025, during the 57th Founding Anniversary of Quezon City General Hospital, Dr. Emmanuel S. Samson was awarded a Plaque of Recognition in honor of his 22 years of unwavering commitment and exemplary service to the institution. This accolade symbolized not only personal achievement but also the department’s enduring legacy of dedication and service.

On September 17, 2025, Dr. Jericho T. Agnes successfully passed the Philippine Board of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery Diplomate Examination (Written and Oral). This accomplishment stands as a testament to her diligence, expertise, and dedication to the specialty.
One of our new diplomates, Dr. Jericho T. Agnes and his paper entitled “Predictive Values of TIRADS and Bethesda Scoring Systems for Thyroid Malignancy at the Quezon City General Hospital: A review of records” was published in the Philippine Journal of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery last November, 2025
Another of our new diplomates and affiliate consultants, Dr. Claudette Gloria T. Plumo and her paper entitled “Association Between e-Cigarette vaping, Voice quality and Vocal Cord Integrity Among Patients at the Quezon City General Hospital” was published in the Philippine Journal of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery last November, 2025

1. Equipment
The Operating Room is located at the right wing of the Second Floor of the hospital building, where surgical elective social service procedures are scheduled every Wednesdays and Fridays while Emergency procedures can be scheduled any day. The Operating Room is equipped with instruments for Otorhinolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery procedures which includes a Leica Operating Microscope, Mastoidectomy, FESS, Tonsillectomy, Esophagoscopy, Maxillofacial and Facial Plastic instruments. Surgical procedures are performed here under the supervision of the Consultant- in-Charge.

The hearing center is located on the 4th floor left wing of the hospital building, adjacent to the ORLHNS Ward nurse’s station. It is equipped with a Pure Tone Audiometry, Automatic Auditory Brainstem Response and tuning fork directed to identify hearing loss.

3. Out-Patient Department
The Department of Otorhinolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery Out-Patient Department which was located at Ground Floor Rm. 12. The out-patient department is located at the new Bautista Building, where patient consultation is done. Minor procedures, nasal endoscopy, video laryngoscopy is done at the Ambulatory Unit and Treatment Unit at the 4th floor ORL-HNS ward. The new ENT OPD has ample space for consultation area, examination cubicles, endoscopy room, minor operating room, and a conference room.
The Department of Otorhinolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery Out-Patient Department which was located at Ground Floor Rm. 12.
