Department Chairperson:
- Supervises the proper operation of a clinical department, directs and formulates well organized programming education for residents and medical interns undergoing training in the department.
- Recommends to the chief of hospital, administrative remedies and procedures for improvement of the clinical service of the institution.
- Responsible for proper management and maintains good relationship in the department.
- Lays down policies, establishes and maintains a standard in medical technique in accordance with the policies of the Department of Health which can be recorded when deemed necessary.
- Coordinates scientific and professional activities of the department, coordinates with other department of the hospital.
- Creates department subcommittees and has the authority to remove or replace a subcommittee and its members in accordance to the department's needs.
- Monitors the policy compliance and acts in rectifying any recognized inadequacies that arise from given responsibilities of each respective level of training.
- Attends the monthly department heads meeting and is the primary representative of the Obstetrics and Gynecology department in interhospital, interagency and interdepartmental concerns.
- Has the authority to terminate the contract of a resident or an Affiliate Consultant should their performance or behavior not meet the standards set forth by the department.
- The final signatory for the promotion of residents and recommendation of consultant's renewal.
- Plans the annual department activities including staff meeting, convention, examinations and conferences.
Training Officer:
- Responsible in formulating guidelines and principles that will sustain the dynamic training program of the OB-GYN residents recommended by the PBOG and CREED.
- Ensure that all OB-GYN residents are appropriately being trained and observed, clinically and surgically, as recommended by the PBOG and CREED.
- Evaluates the clinical and surgical competencies of each resident in training, and documents by compiling the grades (written, oral, surgical and attitude) per year level.
- Reviews department guidelines in cases of incompetent and inefficient OB-GYN resident/s. Revises such guidelines together with the consultant staff for their improvement.
- Make sure that the OB-GYN residents in training perform their duties in accordance with the code of ethics.
- Identifies problems and suggest resolutions to enhance the quality of training and health care provided by the OB-GYN residents.
- Attends the Training Officers meeting.
- Serves as a co-signatory for letters concerning the department's training, promotion, renewal and other concerns.
Consultants:
- Responsible in teaching and guiding the OB-GYN residents based on the training guidelines recommended by the PBOG and CREED.
- Evaluates the clinical and surgical competencies of each resident during their duty, written and oral exams.
- Attends weekly Departmental Conferences (e.g. Audit conferences, Mortality and morbidity Conference) via zoom or face to face.

SUBSPECIALTY ROTATION TRAINING DESIGN
- PERINATOLOGY
LEARNERS: Resident Physician Trainees
FACULTY RESPONSIBLE: Dr. Maria Lourdes T. Solidum and Dr. Marjorie I. Santos
This will be a 3-month rotation to the section of perinatology during their from duty and OPD status wherein they will identify patients that belong to the high risk category and they will be a part of the active management and follow up of these referred cases They are to attend the lectures conducted by consultants on Perinatology. They are expected to observe the procedure performed by the procedures performed by the section (CAS, BPS, Doppler ultrasound, Amnioreduction, Amniocentesis, Cerclage etc.) They will be taught how to interpret CTG tracings and Doppler ultrasound reports. Performance evaluation at the end of the rotation will be based on the result of their written, oral and practical exams. They are also required to keep a logbook of cases seen during their rotation.
General Objectives:

- ULTRASONOLOGY
LEARNERS: Resident Physician Trainees

This will be a 1-month rotation for each year level to the section of perinatology during their first to fourth year of residency training program. The resident rotator will be guided to recognize basic OB-GYN ultrasound parameters under the supervision of an OB-GYN sonologist. At the end of rotation, the residents are confident to handle and appropriately correlate ultrasound findings with the clinical presentation of the patient.
Specific Objectives:
- Recognize basic OB-GYN ultrasound parameters
- Correlate ultrasound findings with the clinical presentation of the patient
- Be able to interpret ultrasound reports and provide its clinical significance
- Make an ultrasound report with guidance of a certified OB-GYN sonologist
- GYNECOLOGIC ONCOLOGY
LEARNERS: Resident Physician Trainees

This will be a 3-month rotation to the Section of Gynecologic Oncology wherein they will assess patients with malignancy and they will be a part of their active management and follow up. They are expected to attend lectures conducted by the consultant. They are expected to observe and be able to do the procedures done by the section (Papsmear, Biopsy, VIA, etc). Performance evaluation at the end of the rotation will be based on the results of their written, oral and practical exams. They are also required to keep a logbook of cases seen during their rotation.

This will be a 3-month rotation to the section of OB-GYN infectious diseases during their first year of residency program. The resident rotator will be guided to evaluate and manage common infections of women and pregnancy under the supervision of an OB-GYN infectious diseases specialists. At the end of rotation, the residents are confident to handle and appropriately manage common OB-GYN infections.
General Objectives:
To enhance the residents’ theoretical knowledge and improve their skills in the prevention, diagnosis and management of common OB-GYN infections.
Specific Objections:
- To identify OB-GYN patients with infections and appropriate manage cases.
- To perform appropriate diagnostic procedures and properly interpret results.
- To enhance skills on common OB-GYN infectious procedures.
- To apply prevention and counseling management in common OB-GYN infections
- PATHOLOGY
LEARNERS: Resident Physician Trainees

This will be a 3-month rotation to the Section of Pathology during their second or third year of residency program. The resident rotator will be guided to do gross and microscopic Exam of specimens under the supervision of Pathology Consultant. At the end of the rotation, the residents will be able to correlate the clinical and surgical findings of patients with histopathologic findings of specimens.
General Objective
To enhance the residents’ theoretical knowledge and improve their skills in clinical and surgical diagnoses aided by histopathologic findings.
Specific Objectives:

- REPRODUCTIVE MEDICINE
LEARNERS: Resident Physician Trainees

This will be a 3-month rotation to the section of OB-GYN Reproductive Medicine during their third year of residency program. The resident rotator will be guided to evaluate and manage gynecologic problems such as abnormal uterine bleeding, amenorrhea, dysmenorrhea, polycystic ovarian syndrome, androgen excess, infertility and endometriosis. The resident rotator will also be exposed to Repro Med procedures and minimally invasive surgeries. At the end of rotation, the residents are confident to handle and appropriately manage common reproductive problems.
General Objectives:
To enhance the residents’ knowledge in the field of reproductive medicine, and to equip them in academic and clinical practice once they graduate from residency training program
Specific Objections:
- The resident must be able to gather relevant clinical data and physical examination on patients, in any age group, with reproductive problems like abnormal uterine bleeding, amenorrhea, pelvic pain, polycystic ovarian syndrome, androgen excess, infertility and menopause.
- The resident must be able to demonstrate critical judgement and expertise in clinical problem solving and ethical decision-making on how to evaluate and manage patients with common reproductive problems.
- The resident will have adequate exposure to (a) Repro Med procedures like intrauterine insemination, hysterosalpingogram, and ultrasound and be able to interpret finding and (b) special repro me surgeries.
- The resident must be able to demonstrate gender-sensitive and ethical practice toward his/her patients.
- The resident must be able to demonstrate effective teaching and counseling skills for the patients and couples with reproductive problems, ex. Infertility, Menopause.
- The resident must be able to demonstrate proper attitude to accurate documentation and reporting of results of clinical evaluation and management.
- The resident must be able to use evidence-based publications and be able to undertake researches for the improvement of quality health care.
- The resident must be equipped theoretically in Reproductive Medicine by attending lectures, conferences and lay fora.

- COMMUNITY SERVICE ACTIVITIES SINCE THE LAST PBOG VISIT (WITH OBJECTIVES AND DESCRIPTION WITH DOCUMENTATION/PHOTOS IN ACTION)
Mother’s class is being held on weekdays, 8-9am at Quezon City General Hospital-OPD Department. The OB residents and nurses provide short talks on the importance of prenatal check-ups and breastfeeding. Mothers who will be having their prenatal check-up are attending this class.
Group discussions regarding family planning are also being held for the pregnant and postpartum patients. As a healthcare provider, we discuss the importance of family planning and birth spacing and help couples in choosing the contraceptive method that is right for them.
Facilitating and attending a mother education class can lessen the anxiety for new moms. At Quezon City General Hospital, we strongly encourage our patients to participate in our health teaching programs taught by our residents and nurses.

Our breastfeeding classes cover the function and structure of the breast, latching and positioning, nutrition, feeding patterns, growth spurts, and recommendations on pumping and storage of breast milk taught by our OB residents and specially trained nurses to our postpartum patients. The classes are usually held at our OB ward every morning to patients who underwent delivery.
However, since March 2020, Out-Patient Department was closed due to COVID19 Pandemic. The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology still continued to provide services for patients by Telemedicine.
At present, mother’s classes are being conducted online where a video posted at our Facebook page can be viewed by our patients for easy access to information such as breastfeeding, family planning and HIV lectures.
We also have posters posted at our Facebook page regarding breastfeeding and family planning so patients can easily remember the important points. If they have questions or clarifications about our lecture they can easily ask us by leaving a message at our social media account.

In line with the observance of the Women’s Month, the Philippine Obstetrical and Gynecological Society (POGS) celebrates annually the “Buntis Day” every March 10 in coordination with the Department of Health, which aims to bring recognition to all pregnant women.
As part of the nationwide campaign on safe pregnancy, the activity aims in educating pregnant women on Safe Motherhood and Responsible Parenthood.
Every year, the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Quezon City General Hospital participates in the celebration of Buntis Day.
However, since March 2020, Out-Patient Department was closed due to COVID19 Pandemic. The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology still continued to provide services for patients by Telemedicine.

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Quezon City General Hospital conducts routine Pap smear for patients who consulted at Out-Patient Department yearly. The month of May has been declared as Cervical Cancer Prevention Awareness Month in Philippines to build public awareness on cervical cancer. In line with this, the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology gives free screening and provides health teaching for the patients to promote better knowledge of the ailment, possible treatments and vaccines for it, and to aid others in obtaining the resources they need to check for or treat it. More than 30 patients participated every day in the said event together with the residents of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

The target beneficiaries of the mission were women of Quezon City who need medical or surgical attention who do not have enough financial resources.
